How to Use Coconut Oil to Revive your Hair
Coconut oil can be a great addition to your hair care routine, thanks to its moisturizing and restorative properties. In this article we have collected a number of tips and prepared a step-by-step guide on how to use coconut oil to restore your hair health.
Choose a high-quality, virgin coconut oil
Look for a high-quality, virgin coconut oil such as OnlyCoconuts, which is less refined and contains more of the natural compounds that make coconut oil beneficial for your hair. You can find coconut oil at most grocery stores, health food stores, or online.
Start with clean, dry hair
Before applying coconut oil, make sure your hair is clean and dry. Shampoo and condition as usual, then towel-dry your hair.
Warm the coconut oil
Scoop out a tablespoon or two of coconut oil, depending on the length and thickness of your hair, and warm it up in your hands or in a bowl set over warm water. You want the oil to be warm enough to spread easily but not so hot that it burns your scalp.
Apply the oil to your hair
Starting at the ends of your hair, work the coconut oil through your hair, focusing on the dry or damaged areas. Use your fingers to massage the oil into your scalp as well.
Comb through your hair
Use a wide-tooth comb or your fingers to distribute the coconut oil evenly through your hair.
Cover your hair
Once your hair is coated in coconut oil, cover it with a shower cap or a towel. This helps to trap in the heat and moisture, allowing the oil to penetrate your hair more deeply.
Leave the oil in your hair for at least 30 minutes
For best results, leave the coconut oil in your hair for at least 30 minutes, or even overnight. The longer you leave it in, the more time it has to nourish and restore your hair.
Shampoo and condition as usual
After the coconut oil treatment, shampoo and condition your hair as usual. You may need to shampoo twice to fully remove the oil.
